New Ecotrail Set to Showcase UAE’s Unique Wildlife at Umm Al Quwain Mangrove Reserve

Early next year, Umm Al Quwain Mangrove Reserve will unveil an exciting ecotrail, offering a unique glimpse into the fascinating wildlife of the UAE. This trail, announced on World Tourism Day, promises to immerse visitors in the rich biodiversity of the coastal lagoon, featuring extraordinary species like glow-in-the-dark geckos and massive green turtles weighing over 100 kg.

Connecting People with Nature

The UAQ Department of Tourism and Archaeology is leading this initiative to foster a meaningful connection between the community and the natural world. Designed to raise awareness about the ecological significance of the lagoon, the ecotrail allows visitors to engage hands-on with stunning wildlife and ecosystems.

Sustainable Design and Features

Sustainability is central to the ecotrail’s development. It will include a 250-meter wooden boardwalk and a 1.8-kilometer guided dune path, constructed with eco-friendly materials to harmonize with the surrounding landscape. Haytham Sultan Al Ali, Director General of the UAQ Department of Tourism and Archaeology, emphasized that solar-powered red lights will illuminate the path to minimize light pollution. The trail will also feature shaded areas and an observatory majlis for visitors to rest and enjoy the scenery.

Discovering Incredible Wildlife

As visitors explore the ecotrail, they will encounter a variety of fascinating creatures, from glowing geckos to guitar-shaped stingrays. Informative signage along the way will provide insights into the unique coastal dunes and the incredible biodiversity thriving in the lagoon. This educational aspect enhances the overall experience, allowing guests to appreciate the richness of the area.

Promoting Conservation and Sustainable Tourism

The ecotrail represents a significant step in showcasing the natural beauty of the UAE’s landscapes. It aligns with the UAQ Sustainable Blue Economy Strategy 2031, which aims to balance economic growth with ecological preservation. By encouraging sustainable tourism and promoting environmental awareness, this initiative enhances the region’s appeal for nature enthusiasts and conservation advocates alike.

The unveiling of the ecotrail at Umm Al Quwain Mangrove Reserve is an exciting development for the region, offering a unique opportunity for individuals to connect with nature while exploring the ecological wonders of the UAE. With its focus on sustainability and education, this project promises to have a lasting impact on both residents and visitors, inviting them to appreciate the incredible biodiversity surrounding them.

As the launch date approaches, anticipation builds for this remarkable addition to the UAE’s array of natural attractions.
