Etihad Rail Expands with New Station in Fujairah, Enhancing UAE Travel

The UAE is making significant strides in improving travel accessibility across the country, with the expansion of the Dubai Metro and the development of Etihad Rail. Recently, Etihad Rail announced the establishment of its latest passenger station in Sakamkam, Fujairah. This station is the second confirmed site for the Etihad Rail network, following an announcement for another station in Sharjah’s University City. This development was highlighted by Adhraa Almansoori, Director of Public Policy and Sustainability at Etihad Rail, during the Global Rail Conference in Abu Dhabi.

In addition to these stations, further locations have been identified, including sites behind the Jumeirah Golf Estates metro station on the Red Line in Dubai, between Dalma Mall and the Musaffah bus station in Abu Dhabi, as well as within Fujairah’s Al-Hilal City development. Attendees at the conference also had the opportunity to view a sample passenger train compartment, featuring luxurious grey leather seats adorned with the Etihad Rail logo. The finished trains will boast a viewing gallery with reclining chairs and large windows, allowing passengers to take in the stunning landscapes.

Etihad Rail’s first stage commenced in 2016, with the second stage beginning in 2020. Once fully operational, the network will stretch approximately 1,200 kilometers, connecting all seven emirates and 11 cities across the UAE. Trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h, significantly reducing travel times while offering beautiful views along the route.

Sustainability is a core focus of Etihad Rail, which is committed to preserving the UAE’s natural environment. The project aims to maintain the region’s flora and fauna, ensuring that travelers can appreciate the diverse landscapes during their journeys.

Although an official launch date for passenger services has not yet been announced, it is anticipated that operations will commence by 2030, with plans to transport an estimated 36 million passengers annually, revolutionizing travel in the UAE.
